Request For Cleaning Crew
As you may have already noticed, our church building is not being kept up the way it was when we started the volunteer program two years ago. Most of the help provided by various people and organizations has been lost. Carol Rivard, volunteer cleaning crew coordinator, approached the Bristol Adult Resource Center (BARC) to do a time study on the various cleaning tasks required. BARC concluded it would take a crew of three to four people four hours each to do all that is needed, at a cost of approximately $85/week.
The following tasks are needed:
- vacuum the sanctuary;
- sweep and mop and vacuum both stair wells;
- sweep and mop both upper and lower hallways;
- vacuum the meeting room;
- sweep and mop the meeting room down stairs (first one on the left going down the front stairwell);
- sweep Sessions Hall;
- vacuum and sweep the Library area;
- clean the windows in all the doorways;
- and sweep and mop the dining hall.
We do not have the money to fund this, so I would ask all of you think about giving an hour at the most a week to come in and take care of one of these jobs. Everything you need is supplied by the church and I would be happy to go over the routine with you. Contact the church office if you can help.
Opportunities to Help at Prospect
Vacation Bible School is in need of a few more adults also. This year it will run August 16th thru the 20th from 6-8 pm. Talk to Eleanor Flower Riker if you would like to lend a hand.
Worship:
There are many opportunities to serve on Sunday morning: the ministry of our Ushers, greeting people as they arrive, being a part of our choir, or helping with the fellowship hour.
Education:
We invite you to be part of a Sunday School Class or Study. There are also opportunities to serve as a Sunday School Teacher or Helper.
Church Office:
If you have a few hours during the week, the office is always looking for volunteers who have computer or office skills, or can answer the telephone.
Facilities:
Assist with opening and closing on Sunday morning, or assist with weddings, memorial services, with outside groups that use our facility.
Grounds' Crew:
Assit with raking, trimming, cleaning and getting the grounds ready for Sunday morning.
Rethink Church Committee:
Rethink Church seeks to redefine the church experience beyond the church doors and invite people to become engaged in the world. Assit with ideas to carry out this mission.
CALLING ALL GARDENERS AND HELPERS
Prospect's two littlest gardeners.
Danny is on the left and Brian is on the right.
There are nine garden areas on the church’s property. Each of them requires maintenance during the growing season. The Trustees are looking for volunteers willing to claim one garden for the year. You’d be asked to weed and trim the area, dead-head the flowers as are needed and discard the yard waste over the hill off the lower parking lot. You’ll need to work with your own garden tools.
There is a diagram of the church property with the gardens highlighted on the bulletin board in Sessions Hall along with a sign-up sheet. Please consider being a part of the team working to maintain our beautiful church’s property.
You can also help with the yard maintenance on Tuesdays beginning April 7th. We’re designating every Tuesday from 5 p.m. to dusk as our weekly work night in the yard. Mowing, raking, bush trimming, weeding and parking lot sweeping are just a few of the tasks that we’ll undertake. Again, come with your own tools. If you can’t make it on Tuesdays, you are free to work on the yard at your own convenience.
If you have any questions, please speak with any one of the Trustees: Ron Baker, Ray Barker, Mike Fasci, John Hickman, Tammy Kelley, Joyce Rioux, Terry Parker, Sue Powers and Chris Wilson.
Our Army of Volunteers
Jill Wilson
We are blessed with a very devoted congregation!! Volunteers are staffing the roles of church secretary and sexton. The appeal was made and the response has been wonderful. Everyone heard the appeal as evidenced by their ages, which range between 11 and 88 years old! Everyone is doing something. Volunteers are having fun together, little problems that pop up have been quickly resolved, and tasks are getting accomplished. With the risk of missing someone (inadvertently) the volunteers who have formally taken on tasks (some more than one) to cover the sexton and secretarial roles are: Heidi Flower, Carla Heister, Susan Lee, Lori Pelkey, Chuck Pelkey, Bill Baker, Ron Baker, Bill Myhill, Dave Cory, Dawn Poirier, Jackie Palance, Dori Nolan, Elaine Foley, Fred Schaffrick, John Hickman, Ray Barker, Carol Rivard, Beth Provost, Sue Powers, Amy Kelley, Marion Hickman, Irene Taylor, Barry Nolan, Jeannette Baker, Marion Palmisano, Vivian Brackett, Louise Schaffrick, Diane Ashworth, Elaine Myhill, Barbara Fasci, Don Titus, Cliff Keyser, and Abby Ledger. Please forgive me if I have missed someone. If your name is not among these but you would like to join us, pitch in and have some fun, let any of us know and we’ll happily include you! There is always more to do, and as my grandmother loved to say “many hands make light work”. Don’t be shy. It is group efforts like this that keep us together and very much alive! Thank you to each of you for your part. It is heartwarming and very much appreciated. See photos below of some of your friendly volunteers!
