Prospect UMC

Church Education

Children attend opening portion of service with family, then go to Sunday School classes.

Reading To End Poverty

Prospect has chosen to participate in "Read to Feed," a reading incentive program designed by Heifer International, a non-profit organization dedicated to ending world hunger and poverty while caring for the Earth.

"Read to Feed" allows children to help find solutions to global problems like hunger and poverty. Children are asked to find sponsors for each book they read over the summer. Sponsors set a pledge amount for each book read such as a quarter or dollar a book. The goal is to promote reading and to help Heifer provide livestock for struggling families which have few resources and need an on-going source of income. These gifts help families move out of poverty to self-reliance.

We appreciate your encouragement and support of your child while he or she participates in "Read to Feed." It will not require much time on your part, but will mean less fortunate children will have an ongoing source of food and hope for a better tomorrow.

Lights of Love

The Education Committee would like to thank everyone for their support of the Christmas Eve Luminary Bags Sunday School Fundraiser. The luminary bags lit our sidewalks on Christmas Eve for both services. Thank you for helping us welcome the Christ Child with lights of love.

Sunday School Teachers and Helpers

The Prospect Playgroup meets the first and third Saturday mornings of each month at 10 a.m. in the church nursery. We welcome parents and children from birth to age 3. If you have any questions, please e-mail Eleanor Riker at wimpress@hotmail.com.

Two Hired With Grant

The Staff Parish Committee is pleased to announce the hiring of two child-care providers for our Nursery. Fay Ann Tolassi and Alexandria Paulette will staff the Nursery every Sunday starting January 8 and continuing through June. They are excited to be in the Nursery and look forward to meeting you.

A special grant was received from the Roberts Fund to fund these positions as we pilot this ministry. Parents and grandparents are encouraged to use this resource for all young children and we hope you will spread the word. If you prefer to remain with your child, know that two adults will be there to greet you and assist you with any of your child care needs.
